lecture: Travel Security

Laptops, Phones, and International Borders

Event_large

Increasingly, people are anxious about crossing international borders with technology, and in particular, there has been an increase in concern about entering the USA. We will discuss the technical and legal considerations different types of travelers face when crossing an international border with technology (both on their person and remotely accessible)

Travelers face all the regular and routine security threats -- malware, network interception, equipment theft, etc., but during travel some of these are enhanced or modified. However, travel also brings some unique security threats not generally encountered at home.

We will describe the threats and how to deploy countermeasures, both as an individual traveler and when setting policy for an organization.
